Medical History

1. Anaemia:

– contraindication to G.A.

– breathlessness, lassitude, weakness

– racial origins – haemolytic anaemia

2. Bleeding disorders:

– history of family involvement

– history of previous difficulty in achieving haemostasis

3. Cardio-respiratory disorders:

– contraindication to G.A.

– may require A.B. cover

– RhF, IHD, cardiac ops.

– wheeze, cough, dyspnoea

4. Drug Treatment and Allergy:

– corticosteroids

– anti-hypertensives

– anti-convulsants

– anti-coagulants

– anti-diabetics

– antibiotics

– contraceptives (prescribed drugs may cause pill failure)

– drug abuse

5. Endocrine disorders:

– diabetes mellitus

– hyperthyroidism

– hypoadrenocorticism

6. Fits or Faints:

– epilepsy

– other causes

7. Gastro-intestinal disorders:

– Crohns

– coeliac disease

– vomiting

– abdominal pain

8. Hospital Admissions:

– previous ops.

– underlying disease

9. Jaundice and Liver Disease:

– Hep.B

– impaired drug metabolism

10. Kidney disorders:

– drug excretion impairment

– hypertension

11. Likelihood of pregnancy:

– contraindication to routine radiography

– care in drug prescription

12. Social History:

– lifestyle

– high risk infectious disease
