NHS Contract

Treatment is divided into four types:

1. Continuing Care

a) Regular patients over 18 years

b) The Dentist is paid continuing care payments for care of the patient for a set period.

c) Contract is renewable at any time.

d) Dentist provides

– Emergency cover.
– Treatment plan and estimate.
– Replacement without charge for certain restorations.

e) Prior approval for treatment costing £200.

2. Capitation

a) Regular patients under 18 years.

b) An amount is paid per year depending on the child’s age to cover all treatment except those designated fee for item of service.

c) Entry payments are made for more than two decayed teeth.

d) Endodontics on permanent dentition removed from capitation (March 1992).

3. Occasional treatment

For casual patients. Treatment is restricted depending on whether the patient is on another dentists’ register or not.

4. Treatment on referral

Patients can be referred to another dentist when you are unable to carry out the treatment required, eg Orthodontics.
