Brought together as a steering group for general dental practitioners, and to encourage the maintenance of standards and research associated with general practice.
The Faculty is responsible for – The Diploma In General Dental Practice (DGPD now the MGDP) – which marks the attainment of an appropriate standard of patient care, and demonstrate a commitment to continuing dental education.
The Faculty is also responsible for The Membership In General Dental Surgery (MGDS), and continues to promote and direct this examination.
– The Divisions organise and conduct their own postgraduate courses using criteria drawn up by the Faculty.
– Distance learning programmes will be available to each Division for assisting dentists preparing for the examinations.
– The Divisions are also involved in local peer review, audit and private study.
